                             *How to knit a scarf*

Step 1. Get some knitting needles and yarn. The needle size depends on the type of yarn you get. You can find the codes for this on the package of your yarn.
Step 2. Pick a pattern. We will go over the ribbed stitch for beginners today.

Step 3. Make a slip knot by grabbing the yarn and making a loop around your thumb and pointer finger. Pull the tail of the string so that it will make a loop.

Step 4. Cast on (make) 20 loops on your needle.

Step 5. To make a knit stitch you place your string behind your needles, insert the right needle in the front of the stitch to the back. Wrap the yarn around the right needle and pull it through the loop.
Step 6. Drop the loop from the left needle.

Step 7. Next make a purl stitch you place the yarn in front of your work. Insert your right needle in the front of the loop on the left needle. Wrap the yarn around the inserted needle and pull through the loop.
Step 8. Drop the loop from the left needle.
Step 9. continue to alternate between the knit and purl stitch until you have the desired length.
Step 10. When you reach the end of your scarf you will cast off (end the scarf).

Step 11. To cast off you will knit and purl your first two stitches as regular. Then you will take your left needle and place it in your first stitch on your right needle and pull it over the second stitch and off the needle.
Step 12. You continue to knit/ purl and drop stitches until you reach the end of the row. Make a knot and enjoy your scarf!
